Dr. Garima Kala has been practicing dentistry since 2009 and has been with the Familia Dental team since 2015. She originally went to school in India, where she received her BDS, then achieved her DDS at the NYU College of Dentistry in 2015. She was motivated to join dentistry after experiencing dental trauma as a child. Later, after losing her mother to cancer, she became set on a career in healing people.

She loves being part of our team because she has the freedom to plan out the care that her patients need and deserve. She uses behavioral modification techniques, breathing exercises, and meditation techniques to help her patients cope with their dental procedures, treating a patient’s oral health and their state of mind as well.

Dr. Kala is a people person, and she loves meeting the hardworking patient population that comes into the office. She is very energetic and stays busy taking care of her patients and her family. She and her husband attended the same two dental schools across two different continents, and they enjoy traveling with their two boys. Dr. Kala loves to socialize, sing, dance, write poetry, cook, swim, hike, take long walks and make crafts with her kids.

Born into a family of doctors, and particularly inspired by his father’s career, Dr. Himanshu Mehrotra decided to join the healthcare profession at an early age. Mehrotra felt particularly drawn to dentistry because it requires both science and art, two of his greatest passions. Dr. Mehrotra completed his undergraduate education at the Institute of Dental Studies & Technologies in India. He then attended the New York University College of Dentistry, graduating in 2015.

The most satisfying part of dentistry for Dr. Mehrotra is relieving pain for his patients and restoring their smiles. The well-being of each patient is his highest priority, and he is comfortable treating all age groups.

Outside of work, Dr. Mehrotra and his wife love to travel, especially to locations with mountains and beaches. They take their elderly parents and kids along, and there is nothing that makes them feel more relaxed than a family vacation! Dr. Mehrotra loves adventure, sports, and playing and watching tennis, soccer, cricket, and football. He also likes watching movies, playing Xbox, and cooking. Dr. Mehrotra’s pasta is a favorite with the office team and a massive hit at office potlucks!
